Svitlana Stoian est critique d'art et professeure des universités récemment arrivée en France d'Ukraine.

Enseignante à l'université de Kiev, directrice de recherche, elle propose un cycle de 3 conférences à l'école autour des biennales d'art et de l'art contemporain ukrainien.


Lecture 1.

Venice Biennale: from 1895 to the present

During the lecture we’ll look at the history of the Venice Biennale from its founding to the present day. I’ll demonstrate how the concept of the biennale has changed, which artists have been represented in the most iconic exhibitions since the 19th century. The main emphasis will be on biennales that took place in the 21st century. We’ll analyze the curatorial concepts of recent exhibitions and the specifics of the main exhibitions at the Arsenale. We’ll also look at the features of the exhibitions of the national pavilions presented in the Giardini Gardens.

1.       The origin of the idea of the future Venice Biennale among Italian intellectuals (1893)

2.       The main trends of the Biennale at the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th century

3.       Revival of the Venice Biennale after World War II. Trends of the second half of the 20th century
